In 2005, Luke Warmcop (drums, percussion) and Graham Mushnik (organ, synthesizers) formed GUESS WHAT, beginning by combining samples of experimental percussion with strange organ themes influenced by jazz and bossa nova. Two years later, the duo moved to London and founded the label Catapulte Records with Antonin Voyant, a long-time collaborator (L’Orchestre du Montplaisant, Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek, Phat Dat).
Their strange and danceable grooves, inspired by the mystical times of Antiquity, astronomy and space exploration, 60s/70s B-movies, and transcontinental popular rhythms, have already resulted in several albums. The conceptual aspect of the duo's albums is the starting point of the project.
The list is long, but these few labels already speak volumes about the identity of Guess What.
With their latest album “Solar Boats”, Guess What travels aboard solar boats to explore the far reaches of the Cosmos, accompanied by children (the “Children In Space” from the previous album), to depict in music the landscapes and phenomena they observe from a poetic point of view.
