InSen, "human" in Arabic, crafts a soulful music at the crossroads of Tunisian rhythms and contemporary electronic sounds. His universe embraces contrasts : popular traditions versus futuristic textures, Tunisian dialect versus sonic poetry, ritual trance versus synthetic pulses, in hymns that are both introspective and unifying, rooted in dance, carried by a hypnotic, deeply rooted voice.
Mehdi Ghanem, a child of the Tunisian alternative fever now adopted by Lyon in France, blends heritage and exploration through his trio Insen. Close to label Shouka (Amar 808, Nessym, Aïta mon Amour), spearheading a new, uninhibited generation of electro-oriental artists, he weaves intimate and unifying anthems rooted in popular culture, that of weddings, street parties, and secular or spiritual collective trances.
It is by questioning language, its forms, its uses, its place in music, that InSen returns to his roots. Tunisian dialect, literary Arabic, the rhythm of words: everything becomes matter. In this intimate reinterpretation, he draws and transcends the power of Tunisian rhythms and traditional instrumentation.
Alongside Magen Mooken, percussive and acoustic entity, and Felix Giacomo-Joubert, electronic mirror and keyboardist, InSen develops a stage project where trance is central. He brings together Mezwed, Targ, Hadra, and popular grooves with immersive modern textures. An organic, free, and poetic syncretism, a music of presence, body, and language. Hasna el Becharia, Floating Points, Bonobo, Sufi music, Malouf, and hybrid electronic music are all inspirations. What connects them is the search for the right vibration, collective breath, and emotion rooted in rhythm and purpose. InSen weaves music from the in-between worlds, deeply ancestral-Tunisian, resolutely contemporary.
