When an adventurous quartet embarks on an exploration of Afro-Colombian music, the expedition becomes exhilarating and irresistibly vibrant. Piercing the insatiable rhythms of traditional repertoires that connect the Pacific to the Caribbean—Chirimia, Bullerengue, and Champeta—this combo, with its progressive Afro-Colombian influences, distills a contagious energy. From the fever of Bogotá to France, Aïtawa shares the riches of Colombian musical heritage without restraint.

At a time when so much music is consumed at breakneck speed, Aïtawa has made it its mission to choose density, memory, and organic vibration. With "Pasaje," released in May 2026, Aïtawa delivers a deeply felt album, imbued with the upheavals of the present as much as with the profound resonances of Colombian traditions. A record of passage, in the noblest sense of the word: one that connects territories, people, and inner states. Pasaje means journey, transition, movement. It tells of what changes, what falls apart, what is reborn. In this debut album, the group intimately reveals itself, delving into the heart of its dreams, its sorrows, and its hopes. Through songs that are sometimes poignant and melancholic, sometimes bursting with energy, Aïtawa evokes uprooting, resilience, impossible loves, but also the contemporary violence that each member tries to survive without giving up on the light. Musically, the album remains deeply rooted in the sounds of the Colombian Caribbean and Pacific coasts. Echoes of great popular bands and masters of the genre can be heard: Peregoyo y su Combo Vacaná, Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Abelardo Carbonó, and the porro brass bands of San Pelayo. But far from any folkloric reconstruction, Aïtawa treats these heritages as a living material: earthy percussion, telluric gaitas, electric guitars, feverish keyboards and psychedelic tensions are embedded in a free, sensual and borderless aesthetic.
